Educational Objectives:

Physicians, pharmacists, and other healthcare providers will:

  • Review 2007 NIH Asthma Guidelines and discuss their implications for diagnostic testing in the setting of asthma
  • Learn the clinical implications of allergy trigger testing in asthma patients based on the 2007 NIH asthma guidelines
  • Learn indications and procedures for in vitro IgE testing in patients with asthma
  • Learn how to apply information and results of in vitro IgE testing to trigger avoidance in patients with asthma
  • Learn how and in whom in vitro trigger testing should be employed in patients with asthma
  • Learn how and when trigger testing should be employed in asthma overlap syndromes such as rhinosinusitis
