In this web-based program, physicians
will learn how recent advances in basic and clinical research have helped
to advance strategies for beta blocker therapy for hypertension and heart
disease, and review evidence-based approaches to managing complications
across the spectrum of heart disease, based on findings reported in the
latest clinical research.

Educational Objectives:
Participants in this CME-certified WebCAST will:
- Learn how to approach
hypertension as a systematic disease, with multiple manifestations,
and associations, including assessment of coexisting conditions that
support use of specific classes or agents.
- Learn how to apply evidence—based
support for cardioselective beta-blockers across the cardiovascular
disease risk spectrum, including hypertension, symptomatic CHD, and
heart failure.
- Learn how to manage complicated patients with high blood
pressure, including those with ischemic heart disease and/or heart
failure.
- Learn how to apply the results of landmark clinical
trials and national guidelines to their clinical practice.
- Learn about
the possible role of the new and emerging beta-1 cardioselective beta-blockers
and their role in the management of hypertension and related cardiovascular
disorders, including heart failure and CVD.
- Learn how to apply evidence-based
and guideline-consistent management of hypertension to specific patient
subgroups.
- Learn about the effects of antihypertensive agents on
myocardial remodeling, heart failure, endothelial reactivity, endothelial
nitric oxide production and its metabolites on the pathogenesis of
essential hypertension, CVD, and platelet activation; and, the possible
implications for clinical management.
Hardware and Software Requirements:
To participate in this program, viewers
must have a PC or Macintosh computer that has active, ongoing internet
access for the duration of the program, as well as a compatible Flash-viewer.
An email address is required for registration, and a printer is required
to printout the CME certificate.
